In The Dark
As I sit in darkened silence
My mind wanders down
Corridors of the past
Rooms of memories
Some brightly lit
With love and laughter
Joy and triumph
Others darkened
Loss and sorrow
Fear and defeat
Faces appear
Friends, family
Lovers relinquished
But unforgotten
Love and life
Smiling children
Happy home
One, a face bearded
In soiled rags
I never knew
But shall never forget
All of these,
Are ever with me
Impatient hours
In the dark
My mind wanders down
Corridors of the past
Rooms of memories
Some brightly lit
With love and laughter
Joy and triumph
Others darkened
Loss and sorrow
Fear and defeat
Faces appear
Friends, family
Lovers relinquished
But unforgotten
Love and life
Smiling children
Happy home
One, a face bearded
In soiled rags
I never knew
But shall never forget
All of these,
Are ever with me
Impatient hours
In the dark
